Over the last few years, millions of students have experienced both online and in-person learning, and opinions are strongly divided.

Online learning offers flexibility. Recorded lectures can be paused and replayed, there is no commute, and students can learn from teachers anywhere in the world. For working adults and students in smaller cities, it opens doors that were closed before. But it also needs strong self-discipline, a stable internet connection and a quiet place to study, which not everyone has.

Classroom learning offers structure and people. Teachers can see when a student is confused, classmates help each other, and the routine of going to school or university keeps many students on track. Practical subjects, labs and sports simply work better in person.

Many schools now mix the two, using online tools to support what happens in class.
